Premiering on the Showtime television network in 1999, Beggars & Choosers exposed the not-so-subtle plottings occurring behind the scenes of a struggling fictional television network known as LGT.
Beggars & Choosers boasted a top-notch ensemble cast coupled with the award-winning talents of writer/producer, Peter Lefcourt. Mr. Lefcourt, a successful novelist in his own right, also brought to B&C his own unique Hollywood experiences which included such diverse endeavors as authoring the television adaptation of a Danielle Steel film and writing regularly for the acclaimed '80s weekly police drama, Cagney and Lacey. |

Tuc took on the challenging role of Malcolm Laffley, an openly gay network vice president who quietly struggled for both professional acceptance and personal happiness. At the center of the cast stood Brian Kerwin as Rob Malone, LGT's shrewd but likable network president based loosely on NBC programming wiz, Brandon Tartikoff. Charlotte Ross, a veteran of five prior television series, portrayed Lori Volpone, a scheming network siren who would have made even Network's Faye Dunaway blush. Unfortunately, Showtime executives made the decision to pull the plug on LGT during the last few weeks of 2000. In an article in the December 18 issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Brian Kerwin was quoted as saying, "I think we were expecting [the cancellation] because [Beggars & Choosers] was so underappreciated in the ratings. People in the industry seemed to like the show so much, but that's the name of the game with TV: You don't get the ratings, you don't get the pickup."
